Anti-Trafficking Organizations Alert Financial Hold Might Enable Modern Slavery
An alliance of 74 religious, legal, and support groups across the nation has expressed concerns regarding the withholding of eighty-eight million dollars in federal funding earmarked for survivors of human trafficking.
Support Systems in Jeopardy
As stated in a collective communication, the US Department of Justice has halted funding for more than 100 service providers that aid survivors escape their traffickers and obtain necessary resources including emergency shelter, therapy, and personalized care.
"Permitting this money to be cut would allow exploitation to flourish and endanger victims," the letter states. "Many regions will be without their sole assistance organization, stranding victims with no safe emergency housing."
Urgent Request
The alliance is urging legislators to push the federal government to release the financial support to protect thousands of trafficking survivors across the country.
This appeal comes after findings that the national leadership has reduced efforts to combat modern slavery, though officials dispute any withdrawal on human rights policies.
