The past two days have been nothing short of dramatic. This past Monday, we marked the half-decade milestone of the PS5 and Xbox Series X consoles with a tournament to determine the best first-party game of this console generation. We presented eight PlayStation 5 titles and eight Xbox Series X games to compete against each other, all heading towards a final showdown where the top game from each platform would go head-to-head. We've witnessed some nail-biting finishes in the initial matchups, especially the extremely tight polls from the previous day. Now, it's moment to decide the leading PlayStation and Xbox titles ahead of the championship on Thursday.

PlayStation 5 Contenders

On the PS5 side, we have the giant-slayer, Astro Bot. Maybe it should be no surprise given that it took home the top prize at the previous year's gaming accolades, but its victory over God of War Ragnarök feels like a true upset. But to get to the finals, it'll need to defeat the most valuable player of the PlayStation 5 era: Insomniac Games. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 enjoyed an easy journey to the semi-finals, defeating Ghost of Yōtei and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart (another Insomniac game!) to land in the semi-finals. Can Spidey topple a home-grown Sony mascot, or is he fated to become a miniature appearance in the upcoming Astro Bot title?

Xbox Series X Contenders

The Xbox Series X side has been even juicier. Coming out on top from a more eclectic field of contenders is Forza Horizon 5. It's a significant win for the racing adventure title so far, demonstrating that a niche category title deserves to be on the equal footing as classic platformers and cinematic action-adventure games. Its final obstacle on the way to the finals is a major challenge, though. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has proven to be a crowd favorite, defeating critical darlings like Pentiment and Hi-Fi Rush. Will it overcome a larger-scale title from an established IP that's closely tied to the Xbox brand? If anyone can pull that off, it's likely Indiana Jones.
