Previous FBI director James the former director has pleaded not guilty to giving untrue testimony to US legislators and hindering a legislative process.

The former director's attorney entered the plea representing him in a national courtroom in the Virginia city of Alexandria on Wednesday.

Patrick Fitzgerald announced he would try to have the proceedings thrown out for several factors including that his defendant, a critic of former President Trump, was being singled out.

Mr Comey was formally accused soon after the former president pushed his chief prosecutor to take action against him.

Court Developments

During the hearing on Wednesday, his attorney Patrick Fitzgerald informed the court they planned to file various petitions to terminate the legal matter before a trial, arguing the government's case was spiteful and that a US attorney was improperly assigned to assume control of the legal matter.

James Comey's proceedings was initially overseen by a Virginia prosecutor, who resigned under pressure from Donald Trump after his examination into another opponent - New York Attorney General Letitia James - did not succeed to file indictments.
